About Cardinal Flavio Chiggi
Flavio Chigi Seniore (born May 10, 1631 in Siena, Tuscany, and died September 13, 1693 in Rome) was a 17th-century Italian cardinal. He is the nephew of Pope Alexander VII and the uncle of Cardinal Antonfelice Zondadari (1712). Other cardinals of the family are Sigismondo Chigi (1667), Flavio Chigi iuniore (1753) and Flavio III Chigi (1873).
In 1664, Cardinal Flavi Chiggi was received by King Louis XIV in his bedchambers at Fontainebleau, perhaps a reason why he is included in Larmessin’s series and interestingly the same year that this print was made.
About Nicolas de Larmessin II
