18th Century Spanish Cantir
A sublime 18th century Spanish free-blown cantir with an intricate twisted handle adorned with a figural bird finial and decorated throughout with rigaree bars, applied floral prunts, and a rough pontil mark. The larger opening in the vessel is for filling and the small spout is for pouring. Developed as communal drinking vessels in the 17th century, this 18th century cantir, also known as a water vessel, demonstrates a complete mastery of the form.
