19th Century Bouillotte Table Lamp
Exquisite late 19th century hand painted, electrified Bouillotte table lamp. Made in France with adjustable tole metal shade, gold lion’s paw feet, and a trompe l’oeil melted wax candle holder to obscure the light socket.
Originally designed for the French card game Bouillotte that was popular during the 18th and 19th century—similar to the modern game of poker—the Bouillotte lamp sat in the center of the playing table. As the game progressed, the lamp’s adjustable shade was moved accordingly to focus light on the cards at hand.
Dimensions: 17 1/2” H, 6 1/2” diameter across the base
